Clueless is a coming-of-age teen comedy film written and directed by Amy Heckerling, and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The original film serves as a loose adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel Emma. The film was followed by a TV series on ABC (later UPN), and a series of novels published by Simon & Schuster.
The series follows Cher Horowitz, a popular but good-hearted sophomore. After she successfully matchmakes two of her teachers, Cher realizes that she enjoys bettering the lives of others around her, even though her ex-stepbrother Josh Lucas doesn't believe she does it out of altruism. Inspired by her success, Cher takes under her wing Tai Frasie, the new transfer student. While trying to make an advantageous match for Tai, Cher attempts to find a boyfriend of her own.
